BRANDON, MB – A woman was car-jacked by a man with a gun on Cornell Bay in Brandon and the suspect remains on the loose.
Police said around 5:30 a.m., they noticed a woman who was in distress walking in the 1400 Block of 6th Street. The woman told police that she drove to a home on Cornell Bay and when she arrived, a man armed with a handgun approached her demanding she get out and give him the keys.
The woman complied and the suspect took off in the vehicle. Later, police in the area saw the vehicle on Cornwallis Crescent and attempted a vehicle stop but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Police pursued the vehicle and after the vehicle went through red lights at 1st and Richmond Avenue and 1st and Park Avenue at a very high rate of speed the pursuit was terminated.
A 911 call a short time later said the vehicle was seen travelling east on Princess Avenue. Police went to the area but were not able to find the vehicle.
The stolen vehicle is a 2012 White Hyundai Elantra with Manitoba License plate HUS 435. The suspect is described as male, aboriginal in appearance, wearing red clothing with tattoos on his face.
