WINNIPEG – Take dad to Assiniboine Park Zoo this weekend and he’ll get 25% of regular Zoo admission. To celebrate Father’s Day, the zoo is offering the discount both Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16.

“This is a great weekend for families to spend some quality time with Dad while exploring the Zoo,” said Laura Cabak, Manager, Public Relations & Communications. “We have some wonderful Zoo dads who will also be getting some extra attention this weekend.”

The Assiniboine Park Zoo participates in over 40 breeding programs through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan Program and the European Endangered Species Programme. Many of these breeding programs represent species that urgently need to be conserved and protected in the wild, including snow leopards and white-handed gibbons. The Zoo dads who participate in these programs will also be celebrated this weekend.

Special Father’s Day activities will take place daily from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Gibbon Pavilion:

· Dads Rock – create a decorative rock craft for Dad

· Find our Zoo Dads – pick up a riddle card and try to find all our Zoo dads

· Father’s Day Cards – sign Father’s Day cards for our Zoo dads

The featured Zoo Chat this weekend is Gabbing with Gibbons, which takes place daily at 1:30 p.m. at the Gibbon Pavilion. Visitors can learn about these charismatic creatures, the challenges they face in the wild, and the Zoo’s white-handed gibbon family, which includes Maya (mom), baby Salju, and proud poppa Samson. Visitors can also attend daily Zoo Chats about tigers, wolves, polar bears and more.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please visit the Zoo website for more information. Discounted tickets must be purchased in person at the Zoo entrance and cannot be combined with other offers.
