WINNIPEG – A new variant of COVID-19 that first showed up recently in the UK has now been detected in Canada.

Officials in Ontario say a couple in the Durham area, just east of Toronto, has become infected with it.

Experts in that province say it’s likely others have it too because the man and woman haven’t traveled and they got it from someone.

While there’s still no sign of this more transmissible coronavirus strain in Manitoba, it has been detected in several other countries but not the US yet.
