WINNIPEG – Manitoba RCMP says a crash involving a motorcycle and a truck towing a boat in the RM of St. Clements has claimed the life of a 64-year-old from the municipality. The collision happened 10 minutes northeast of Selkirk just before 2 p.m. on Sunday. The intersection was closed for more than three hours as a forensic reconstruction unit investigated.

This morning police stated that the motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, was heading northbound on Highway 59 and made a left turn to go westbound onto Highway 4. As the motorcycle tried to cross the southbound lane of 59, it was struck by a pickup. The driver of the truck, a 74-year-old man from Grande Pointe, was not injured in the collision. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries while in hospital. Mounties said they will release more information later this morning.

This comes four days after a cyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle on Highway 59 near Grande Pointe – a municipality 45 minutes southwest of Selkirk, and just 10 minutes south of the perimeter highway.
