Driver Dies When Truck Carrying a Load of Chemicals Hits Tree

MINNEDOSA – A man from Kelwood was killed in a tractor trailer accident Saturday in the town of Minnedosa.

RCMP said at approximately 9:30 am Saturday morning they responded to a single vehicle collision involving a truck tractor carrying anhydrous ammonia, on Road 85 North at PR 262 in the Town of Minnedosa.

The driver and lone occupant, a 63-year-old man from Kelwood, is believed to have been travelling westbound on 85 North, when the truck went through the intersection at PR 262 and collided with a tree. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.

The anhydrous ammonia being transported remained intact and did not leak at the time of the collision. Rivers Fire Department, Minnedosa Fire Department and Sustainable Development are all on scene assisting with the safe removal of it.

Police warned the public at about 3:30PM Saturday afternoon that for the next several hours PR 262 between 3rd Street South East to 86 North will be closed and traffic will be re-directed to 84 N and then to 99 W (Bethany Road).

Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
