Drugs, Weapons, & Cash Found During Traffic Stop – Man and Woman Arrested

WINNIPEG – A routine check of a vehicle by Winnipeg Police leads to the seizure of weapons, drugs, cell phones and cash and the arrest of a man and woman who are now facing multiple charges.

After running the plate of a suspicious vehicle near Cecil Street and Logan Avenue Tuesday afternoon, police learned the owner of the vehicle was wanted on a warrant so they conducted a traffic stop.

Police identified the driver as the owner and discovered a passenger also had a warrant for his arrest. Both were taken into custody and a search resulted in the seizure of a number of items including the following:

  • 2 cans of bear spray.
  • A knife.
  • A telescopic baton weapon.
  • A hatchet.
  • 109 Percocet pills.
  • 1 gram of methamphetamine.
  • Approximately $455.00.
  • 4 mobile phones.
  • Identification belonging to an adult female.

Joseph Richard Laquette, a 33-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon (x4)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order (x5)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

Police also arrested a 30-year-old woman from Winnipeg for the following:

  • Possession of a Weapon (x3)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon (x2)
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Outstanding warrant for Driving Disqualified ( Highway Traffic Act)
