Evicted Woman Sets Apartment on Fire

WINNIPEG – A 30 year-old woman caused $50,000 in structural damage after she set fire to an apartment building that she had been recently evicted from.

Emergency personnel responded to the fire just before 10:00 PM. on July 8 and evacuated the building. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Police found the suspect, 30 year-old Talia Fawn Kent at the scene and placed her under arrest. She had a lighter in her possession.

As the investigation continued police located another suspect, 29 year-old Pieut Kenny Meekis and placed him under arrest. He was found to be in possession of a large knife, break-in tools and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Kent has been charged with:

– Break Enter & Commit Arson – Dwelling House

– Arson with Disregard for Human Life

– Arson Causing Damage to Property

– Possession of Incendiary Material

Meekis has been charged with:

– Break Enter & Commit Arson – Dwelling House

– Arson with Disregard for Human Life

– Arson Causing Damage to Property

– Possession of Incendiary Material

– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine

– Possession of Break-In Instrument(s)

– Possession of a Weapon

Both were detained in custody.
