Winnipeg, MB. – Killarney RCMP received a report of an overdue plane early evening on the 15th of December.
RCMP said in a news release, the pilot, a 60-year-old male, was flying alone in his personal Piper aircraft from Gillam to a private landing strip in the RM of Argyle. The plane was scheduled to land at the strip at approximately 6:30 pm.
Police report, just past his scheduled arrival time, contact was lost with the pilot and the aircraft.
A Canadian Forces Hercules searched for the missing aircraft the evening of December 15, and resumed the search, along with the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association of Manitoba, early Saturday morning.
The plane was located around 3:30 pm in a wooded area close to the landing strip near Baldur, Manitoba. The pilot was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.
Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada have been notified and will be leading the investigation.
