Fight Over $10 Leads to Arson Charges for a 17 Year-Old

News

WINNIPEG, MB. – An argument over $10 is believed to be the reason a 17-year-old Winnipeg female set a home on fire.

Friday, December 29th, around 7:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a fire at a home in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue.

The cause of the fire was suspicious and an investigation was immediately launched.

Police quickly identified a suspect and, in a release, said they have charged a 17-year-old female from Winnipeg with the following:

  • Break Enter & Commit Arson – Dwelling House
  • Arson Causing Damage to Property
  • Arson with Disregard for Human Life (x5)
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence (x2)

Police also said that they now believe that the incident began when 3 people in a suite at this home were consuming alcohol and using methamphetamine.

A fight then arose over a $10 payment and one person was subsequently removed from the home.

The ejected person broke a large window and returned, threatening retaliation at which time a fire was deliberately set.

As a result, the entire house, including rooms occupied by 3 other tenants, was completely engulfed in flames. All of the individuals were able to escape the structure without significant injuries. The house was completely destroyed by the blaze.
