KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes fell 3-2 against the Kansas City T-Bones in their final spring training match of the season.
Kansas City rallied and pulled ahead of the Fish during the bottom of the second, taking the lead for the remainder of the game.
With two teammates on base and trailing 1-0, T-Bones Cal Towey began the rally with an RBI single. Towey’s hit went centerfield, over the head of Goldeyes’ Jose Sermo, and sent Adam Walker home from third to give the T-Bones the tying run.
Nick Torres scored next, giving the T-Bones the 2-1 lead.
The following hitter, Kansas City’s Angel Rosa, sent the ball directly to third base and under the glove of Winnipeg’s Josh Mazzola. Mazzola was charged with an error that sent Rosa to first, and brought Cal Towey home for the T-Bones.
Starting pitcher Shane Dawson took the loss for the Goldeyes.
T-Bones relief pitcher Cody Winiarski picked up the save, and teammate Francisco Gracesqui picked up the win.
The Goldeyes opened up scoring in the first, after a powerful hit by Reynaldo Rodriguez earned him an RBI double and brought teammate Andrew Sohn to home plate.
The top of the first ended abruptly, when Reggie Abercrombie hit a line drive directly to T-Bones Dexter Kjerstad, who caught the ball and threw it to second, getting Rodriguez out as he was running on the pitch.
The Fish would score once more, in the top of the fourth. Grant Heyman scored an RBI single that sent Reggie Abercrombie to home plate. Heyman now leads the Goldeyes in spring training RBI’s, with a total of five.
The Goldeyes end their spring training with a 3-4 record. The T-Bones finish with a record of 5-2.
