WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams enhances the lives of children with disabilities
Enhancing the quality of a child’s life is how the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation provides support to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. SMD supports the independence, participation, and empowerment of over 47, 000 children, youth and adults with disabilities in Manitoba through a variety of programs and services, including the assistive technology program.
In 2017 the Field of Dreams Foundation once again sponsored a bursary to help pay for the special devices and equipment that children with disabilities need to improve their lives. One of the many recipients of this bursary was the SMD Youth Ambassador Caleb. Thanks to the Field of Dreams bursary, Caleb’s family was able to get a wheelchair lift for their vehicle, making it easier to take Caleb to school and on family adventures! Participating in daily and family activities has enriched and enhanced Caleb’s quality of life in a kaleidoscope of ways that goes beyond the physical and assistive device itself.
Assistive technology creates a sense of freedom, security and independence for people with disabilities. Whether it is a hearing aid, a mobility device, specialized bicycles, or any number of different types of equipment, assistive technology empowers people with disabilities. Thanks to the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams continued help, children and youth with disabilities can focus on their ability, not disability, and dream big.
