K9 Unit Finds Would-Be Car Thieves

WINNIPEG – Two Winnipeg women attempted to steal a vehicle armed with a sawed off shot-gun, but were interrupted when police arrive at the scene.

The women fled as soon as police arrived and the K9 Unit was called in. They were found hiding at a nearby school.

Officers recovered a driver’s licence that had been taken from the car and a sawed off shot-gun on the ground nearby.

27 year-old Ashley Jessica Rupert has been charged with:

– Theft Under $5000

– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)

19 year-old Savannah Paige Linklater has been charged with:

– Theft Under $5000

– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Both were detained in custody.
