WINNIPEG – It’s a full day of winter fun planned for Louis Riel Day at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. There is tons to do for families all weekend including checking out the new baby white-handed gibbon.
This will be the first weekend visitors will be able to see the Zoo’s new white-handed gibbon baby. Born on February 4, the sweet little gibbon will make his or her (we don’t know yet) first public appearance on Valentine’s Day.
The following activities will take place this weekend at the Zoo:
Saturday (February 16)
· Breakfast with the Bears at the Tundra Grill | 9:00 am – 11:00 am (breakfast must be purchased separately)
· Polar bear Zoo Chat at the Tundra Grill | 10:30 am
· Craft station in Gateway to the Arctic | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
· Touchable Arctic bio-facts station in Gateway to the Arctic | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
· Palm oil interpretive station in the Gibbon Pavilion | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Sunday (February 17)
· Polar bear Zoo Chat at the Tundra Grill | 10:30 am
· Craft station in Gateway to the Arctic | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
· Touchable Arctic bio-facts station in Gateway to the Arctic | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
· Palm oil interpretive station in the Gibbon Pavilion | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Monday – Louis Riel Day (February 18)
· Family-friendly winter games |10:00 am – 3:00 pm
o Jam pail curling, smooshing skis, toboggan pulls, tug of war, snow sculpture carving, bonfires, hot chocolate station (bring your own reusable mug to the winter games area and receive a free hot chocolate)
· Story time in Gateway to the Arctic | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
· Appearances by Queen Elsa & Princess Anna from Frozen at winter games area and Toucan Ridge | 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
· Appearances by Winston the Polar Bear (our Zoo mascot) at winter games area and Zoo entrance | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
· Palm oil interpretive station in the Gibbon Pavilion | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
The Zoo is open 9 am to 4 pm daily. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
