WINNIPEG – It’s Louis Riel Day but because of COVID-19, many of the celebrations have moved online.
Riel was a passionate Métis leader but he was also a catalyst in the events that led to Manitoba becoming Canada’s fifth province and joining confederation in 1870.
It’s said that he had a dream of a civilized world that embraces all cultures and this dream is celebrated by all Manitobans on Louis Riel Day.
David Chartrand, president of the Manitoba Metis Federation, says no matter who you are, the day is about family, community and pride.
