Man and Woman Charged for Winnipeg Carjacking

Winnipeg, MB. – A man and woman have been charged in connection with a carjacking that happened on St. Mary’s Road early this morning.

Around midnight two suspects attended confronted two occupants of a parked vehicle who were waiting for the owner of the vehicle while he was inside a nearby restaurant on St. Mary’s Road.

The two suspects produced weapons and demanded the occupants exit the vehicle.

A man and woman entered the vehicle, however, the owner was alerted to the theft and attempted to enter the front passenger door. One suspect, who was in the driver seat, put the vehicle into reverse and sped off, causing the owner to jump from the vehicle.

Officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned on Enfield Crescent a short time later where the K9 unit began searching. The search lead police to a recycling bin at the rear of a nearby apartment building where they found a male suspect hiding.

The same K9 unit tracked down the female suspect on Kitson Street where she was taken into custody.

Police have charge a 41-year-old male of Winnipeg with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Robbery (x2)
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

They also charged a 31-year-old female of Winnipeg with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Robbery (x2)
  • Possession of a Weapon

Police said in a release, that the names of the suspect have not been released as charges have not been formally laid yet.
