Man Believed to be on Meth Facing Several Charges after Threatening Police

WINNIPEG – Police stumble upon a man who they arrested after a short pursuit.

Police said they spotted the man rummaging through property at the rear of a business.

When officers attempted to speak with the man, he threw a bag on the ground and fled on a bike. Officers caught up with the man near Queen Elizabeth Way and Stradbrook Avenue where he crashed his bicycle.

He immediately confronted the officers and threatened to stab them. He then pulled out a pair of metal sheers from his pockets and at one point armed himself with a 2.5 foot piece of rebar.

As police attempted to place him in the cruiser, the man kicked both of the officers. He was ultimately secured and neither officer was injured. It is believed he was high on methamphetamine

Justin Seth Shorting, a 26-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer (x2)
  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon (x2)
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (x2)
  • Possession of a Weapon (x3)
