Man & Woman Arrested After Crime Spree, One Suspect at Large

WINNIPEG – Police have arrested and charged a man and woman responsible for several aggressive acts of crime, one suspect remains at large.

In the evening hours of July 8th a 62-year-old woman, and a 63-year-old man at home on Wyper Road were assaulted by two men, one armed with a gun and one with a bladed weapon. Police say that the woman went outside in response to her dogs barking. She was confronted by a man who pointed a gun at her while the other man walked past her and tried to get in the home. The woman tried to run and was seriously assaulted.

The second male suspect entered the home and assaulted the 63-year-old man. The female victim went back into the home and was assaulted by the second male suspect. A female suspect was present at the time of the assaults.

The suspect armed with the firearm then went into the home and assaulted the male victim, before both the men and the woman fled in the homeowner’s vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Then at approximately 7:20 PM Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were responding to a call with their lights and siren activated in the area of Kenaston Blvd and Sterling Lyon Parkway. The same suspects, operating a motor vehicle, narrowly missed colliding with the Fire vehicle.

At approximately 7:25 PM the suspects were operating the same vehicle at a high rate of speed when they struck a 31-year-old male pedestrian in the area of Cambridge Street and Academy Road. The victim suffered serious lower body injuries and was treated in hospital.

The suspects continued to drive in a dangerous manner, striking several fences in the area. Officers spotted the vehicle in the area of Simcoe Street and Wellington Avenue where they attempted to stop it. The vehicle sped away and lost control in the area of Sargent Avenue and Beverley Street. The occupants then fled on foot and a male and female were arrested in the immediate area.

Officers searched the vehicle and located a sawed-off rifle and magazine inside.

Later the same day the vehicle stolen from Wyper Road was recovered in a field off of Wyper Road.

Police said that the male suspect arrested was responsible for several thefts from Manitoba Liquor and Lottery Commission (MLLC) stores throughout Winnipeg and stole approximately $4000.00 worth of liquor products between June 1 and July 8, 2018.

On June 11 of this year a 2011 Toyota Corolla was stolen from Dumoulin Street. On June 17th the arrested male gassed the vehicle up on Notre Dame Avenue and took off without paying. The stolen vehicle was recovered a few days later on June 22nd by the Canadian Pacific Police Service in a rail yard.

On June 25th a black 2016 Dodge Ram was stolen from Hargrave Street. On July 6th the arrested male was seen entering the stolen vehicle after a theft from an MLCC store on Ness Avenue. The truck has not been recovered.

Nicholas Donald Harper, a 27-year old man has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2
  • Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized X2
  • Use Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 X2
  • Robbery
  • Theft Under $5000 X4
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon, prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle X2
  • Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident
  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Flight While Pursued by Police Officer

Susan Kitty Thompson, a 22-year-old woman from Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter and Commit Robbery
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Possess Weapon
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance X2

A second male suspect remains outstanding.
