Cameron Schilling opened the scoring 6:15 into the game when his shot for the point found its way past a screened Juuse Saros. Milwaukee wasted no time in tying the game just 23 seconds later off the stick of Phil Lane. Midway through the frame, the Moose attacked the Milwaukee goal, hitting the post three times in quick succession before Cam Maclise was able to sneak the team’s second goal to the back of the net at 13:33. The Moose added to their advantage at 15:52 courtesy of Mason Appleton tipping a Kirill Gotovets pass up over Saros’ shoulder for a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
The only goal of the second period came 1:08 into the frame as Jimmy Oligny pulled Milwaukee within one goal. Saros did his job to keep the Admirals within one throughout the period as the Moose had a pair of great chances. The first came off the stick of Michael Spacek as what looked like a back-door tap-in was booted away by the Milwaukee goaltender. Late in the period, Buddy Robinson raced in alone, put together a few moves, but Saros stuck with him and the Moose had to settle for a 3-2 lead through two periods.
The Admirals tied the game on a power play marker from Tyler Kelleher with six minutes remaining in the third. Despite a few good looks late, the Moose couldn’t put themselves back in front before the end of regulation. In overtime, both teams had their chances, including a breakaway for Manitoba’s Mason Appleton, but the goaltenders forced the game into a shootout. Michael Sgarbossa opened things up with a goal for Manitoba, but Justin Kirkland and Trevor Smith scored for Milwaukee as the Admirals came away with the 4-3 shootout victory.
