WINNIPEG, MB. – The Manitoba Bisons will host the 2018 Canada West Track and Field Championship from February 23-23 at the James Daly Fieldhouse.

Since 2000, this will be the sixth time Manitoba has been a host of the conference Track & Field event. Previous years the Bisons were hosts were 2015, 2011, 2007, 2004 and 2000.

The 2018 Canada West Track and Field Championship will have all eight schools (Alberta, Calgary, Lethbridge, Regina, Saskatchewan, Trinity Western, Victoria, and Manitoba) competing in men’s and women’s events. The defending conference champion from 2017 is Alberta for the women’s team standings and Trinity Western on the men’s.

The last time Manitoba captured a conference track and field championship was in 2009 for the men’s team and 1996 for the women’s team.

The two day event starts on Friday, February 23 and runs from approximately 2-9 p.m. The second day session begins on Saturday, February 28 from 11:30 a.m. and finish at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Bison track and field head coach Claude Berube, in his 21st season, will be at the helm as both teams have new recruits and returning veterans that look to improve on their fifth place showing on the women’s side and fourth place results for the men’s team in 2017. “We are excited to be hosting the Canada West Track and Field Championship in our updated facility and always a good meet to compete in front of fans, family and friends,” stated Berube.
