WINNIPEG – An outside review of what happened at Maples personal care home is finished.
Dr. Lynn Stevenson, a former deputy health minister in BC, has made 17 recommendations and the province promises to implement all of them.
She says there was a pandemic plan in place at Maples but the home wasn’t prepared for a loss of staff to COVID-19.
Health minister Heather Stefanson says work has already begun on the recommendations which include developing new staffing strategies and setting up a rapid testing pilot project for asymptomatic staff.
Revera which owns Maples calls the review fair and thorough.
During the three month Maples outbreak, 56 residents died from coronavirus.
