Moose Back Their Winning Ways

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Moose got goals from four different players on Thursday night and they put a halt on a two-game losing streak in the process.

Jan Kostalek, JC Lipon, Nic Petan and Buddy Robinson all scored single goals as the Moose beat the Stockton Heat 4-1 in front of 3,093 of the faithful at Bell MTS Place.

With the win, in the first game of an eight-game homestand, the Moose improved to 39-19-4-4 and remained in first place in the Central Division of the American Hockey League, five points ahead of the second-place Chicago Wolves.

The Moose had this one in the bag early. After a scoreless first period, Kostalek scored his fourth of the year at 1:16 of the second, Lipon scored his 14th at 9:21 and Petan scored his 15th shorthanded at 18:04 to give Manitoba a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Stockton’s Ryan Lomberg scored at 17:19 of the third period to ruin Moose goaltender Jamie Phillips’ shutout, but Robinson notched his 25th of the year into an empty net at 18:51, to make it 4-1.

The Moose outshot San Antonio 30-22. Phillips made 21 saves and was the game’s third star. The Moose went zero-for-four on the power play while the Heat was zero-for-five.

The Moose will face Stockton again on Saturday night at Bell MTS Place. Game time is 7 p.m.

THE NOTEBOOK: Mason Appleton thad two more assists and now has 40 on the season. Moose captain Patrice Cormier picked up an assist, the 101st of his AHL career.
