WINNIPEG – The province is looking to solve long wait times at COVID-19 test sites, with a mobile testing centre going up in Winnipeg. The new site at Portage Ave and Wall St includes portable toilets and orange pylons to direct foot traffic, and is the result of a partnership between the Manitoba Government, Shared Health, and Brampton-based medical lab service Dynacare. Dynacare says the collection site is staffed with two nurses, with additional one or two nurses on hand Wednesday to help with the setup.
The province says the new site will be open seven days per week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The installation comes after reports of people waiting in line for more than four hours at other test sites in recent weeks.
Three more drive-through sites will also be opening up across the city around mid-October, on Regent Ave West, on King Edward St in the Polo Park area, and another somewhere in the southern area of the city. Others are planned to open soon for Winkler, Brandon, Portage la Prairie, and Dauphin.
