New Year’s Drinking and Driving Results in Fatality

BERENS RIVER – A 21 year-old old woman was struck by an SUV on Main Road in Berens River on January 1 at 2:15 am.

The accident occurred on Main Road in Berens River when an SUV struck the woman who was walking with a small group of people along the road. The 36 year-old driver of the vehicle immediately alerted the RCMP of the incident.

The 21 year-old woman from Bloodvein was pronounced deceased at the scene.

RCMP have charged 36-year-old David Ernest George, from Berens River, with Impaired Driving Causing Death. He has been released from custody on a Recognizance and will appear in court scheduled on March 12, 2019, in Berens River.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision.

Berens River RCMP and a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
