WINNIPEG – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Headingley Correctional Centre.
Seven inmates and two workers at the jail have tested positive for coronavirus, forcing 150 prisoners to self-isolate.
Public health officials have moved the jail to red or critical under the provincial pandemic response system.
The facility has discontinued visitations and transfers and enhanced the use of personal protective equipment.
Manitoba justice minister Cliff Cullen says they’re doing everything they can to stop the spread of the virus at Headingley.
There are also cases of COVID at the Winnipeg Remand Centre and Milner Ridge Correctional Centre but those situations aren’t considered outbreaks, at least not yet.
