Police, Air-1, K-9 and Helpful Witness Needed to Catch Armed Robbers

WINNIPEG – A good samaritan, Air 1 and K-9 were needed to catch up with a couple who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint.

On December 16th at 12:35 am. a man and a woman armed with a gun robbed a convenience store on Corydon Avenue. The got away with cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash, pointing their firearm at a witness that started following them as they ran away.

Police, Air-1 and a K-9 unit were led by a witness to an area that the couple was last seen. A short time later the suspects were found running and were taken into custody near Jessie Street and Nassau Avenue. They recovered the stolen items as well as a replica firearm.

The couple were also responsible for a robbery at a gas station on December 15th on Osborne Street.

34 year-old John Raven Ward has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, multiple weapons charges, and a Canada Wide Warrant for a Parole Revocation.

28 year-old Courtney Marie Friesen has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and failing to comply with a probation order.

Both have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
