Police Arrest 3 People Found With Multiple Weapons & Ammunition

WINNIPEG – Two men and a woman found driving a stolen vehicle in Winnipeg on Friday are in jail after police found a number of weapons and ammunition in their possession.

Just after midnight on July 20th, Police began to follow a stolen vehicle near McPhillips Street and Selkirk Avenue. AIR1 joined the officers to assist in tracking the vehicle.

Once the vehicle came to a stop on Ross Avenue West police arrested the three people inside.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a number of items including the following:

  • A loaded .303 calibre rifle
  • A loaded 12 gauge shotgun
  • 15 .303 cartridges (ammunition)
  • 9 .30-30 cartridges (ammunition)
  • Ammunition magazine
  • A crossbow
  • Bear spray

Police said they believe the vehicle had been stolen from the William Whyte neighbourhood sometime between July 16 and 17, 2018.

Police say Cherish Marie Irene Henry, a 32-year-old woman from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon (x4)
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x5)
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Drive without licence or with invalid licence (Highway Traffic Act)

Gordon William Kovich, a 28-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon (x4)
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x20)
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x5)

And Vincent Edgar Urniezius, a 48-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon (x4)
  • Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x5)
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
