WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba government is proud to commemorate the second annual Royal Canadian Mounted Police Day, which recognizes the dedicated service of RCMP officers in their commitment to the safety and well-being of others, Justice Minister Heather Stefanson announced today.

“As Manitobans and as Canadians, it is important that we show our respect and appreciation for the dedicated service of the RCMP,” said Stefanson. “RCMP Day is about honouring each of the hardworking members of the RCMP who work tirelessly and selflessly to keep us safe.”

RCMP Day was established in Manitoba by a private member’s bill introduced in fall 2016 by Cliff Graydon, member of the legislative assembly for Emerson.

The RCMP were formally established by an act of parliament on Feb. 1, 1920, merging the North-West Mounted Police and Dominion Police of Eastern Canada. Today, the RCMP has over 1,000 officers in Manitoba and more than 400 public service employees and civilian members in the province.
