Second Suspect Arrested in Kidnapping & Assault of a 32-Year-Old Man

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Police arrested the second man wanted in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a 32-year-old man back in June of this year.

Police were told by the victim that he had been abducted at gunpoint by several people and viciously assaulted overnight. At the time of the call, the victim was being treated at hospital.

The victim told police that on June 8, 2018, he was walking in the area of Sargent Avenue and Victor Street when a vehicle came to a screeching halt beside him. Two people exited the vehicle, struck the victim on the head, pulled him into the van and bound his hands. The victim was robbed of his wallet, money, bank card, and cell phone.

They drove him to an address on Spence Street where he was taken to an upper-level room. He was bound to a chair and physically assaulted by the attackers who demanded his PIN number. A dark garbage bag was placed over the victim’s head and he was forced to breathe in methamphetamine while a knife was held to his throat. The victim reports he was hanged out a window, burned with cigarettes and threatened, while a gun was pointed at his head, also in an attempt to obtain his PIN number.

The suspects left in the early morning once obtaining the victim’s banking information. The victim escaped and sought assistance.

The victim was treated in hospital for numerous injuries and released.

On Tuesday Police were called to the area of Bertrand Street and St. Jean Baptiste Street in regards to a suspicious man walking around. when police arrived they found a man who was identified as being a second suspect in the attack on this victim.

Boniface John Mason, a 20-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested and had several break-in tools and a single .22 calibre bullet in his possession. He has been charged with:

  • Kidnapping
  • Robbery
  • Possess Weapon
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent – Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm
  • Use of Credit Card X2

Preston Anthony Kakegamic, a 29-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Kidnapping
  • Robbery
  • Possess Weapon
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent – Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possess Break in Instruments
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance
