WINNIPEG, MB – Two security guards chase down a robbery suspect who tried to get away with over $25,000 in jewelry.
Around 10:00 AM on Saturday, police received a call about a robbery in the 300 block of Portage Avenue, they were told, a security officer was in pursuit of the suspect.
When officers arrived the suspect was in the custody of two security officers near Portage Avenue and Kennedy Street. The suspect sustained two cuts during the robbery. He was taken to the hospital, treated and later released.
Police learned that the suspect had confronted and threatened an employee with a knife, demanding the safe be opened. The employee was able to flee. The suspect then smashed two glass display cases and stole approximately $28,000 in jewelry before taking off himself.
Police said, Brandon Cory Richards, 33-years-old, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Possess Weapon
- Utter Threats
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
