WINNIPEG, MB — Seven Manitoba Bisons were selected in the 2019 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft on Thursday, May 2, tied for the second-most ever (2002) in program history.
Offensive lineman Zack Williams led proceedings for Manitoba, as he was picked 28th overall in the third round by the Calgary Stampeders. Receiver Shai Ross was picked 40th overall in the fifth round by the Edmonton Eskimos.
Four Bisons defensive linemen were selected in the sixth and seventh rounds, with Tariq LaChance selected 52nd overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Chris Larsen selected 54th by the Ottawa Redblacks, Derek Dufault selected 58th overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Samson Abbott selected 63rd overall by the Redblacks. In the eighth round, running back Jamel Lyles was selected 69th overall by the B.C. Lions.
In the CFL Draft, the Manitoba Bisons have now accounted for the fourth most university football players drafted since 2000 with 48 selections, trailing Calgary, Laval, and Western.
