St Patrick’s Weekend at the Zoo

WINNIPEG – The Assiniboine Park Zoo has big plans this weekend with tons of activities for the whole family.

The weekend will kick-off early on Friday, March 15, which is an in-service day for schools across Winnipeg. With children home from school and families looking for things to do, the Zoo is offering $15 admission for youth, adults and seniors. Discounted tickets must be purchased in person at the Zoo Entrance, cannot be combined with other offers or promotions, and are valid only on the day of the promotion.

The fun continues on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 with a St. Patrick’s themed weekend promotion that is all about snakes. According to legend, St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland. The truth is that geography and climate had a lot more to do with it.

“There are over 3,000 snake species around the world. They come in all sizes and colours and have adapted to survive and thrive in jungles, deserts, forests and even in the sea,” said Shane Pratt, Supervisor, Animal Care – Interpretive Services. “They are fascinating creatures and play very important roles in our ecosystems. This weekend is a great time to learn about some of the snakes that call the Zoo home.”

Shane will be hosting Zoo Chats on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. There will also be snake and shamrock face painting and special St. Patrick’s Day themed crafts. All activities take place at the Kinsmen Discovery Centre between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

The Zoo is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm all weekend, including Friday. Visit our website for full promotion details.
