WINNIPEG – A stolen vehicle chase sapped police of considerable resources and caused extensive damage as it fled from officers.

Police first attempted to stop the stolen in the area of Munroe Ave and Watt St. The vehicle came to a dead-end lot and a marked police car pulled in behind it. The suspect vehicle then drove directly at officers and they discharged their firearm in response. The suspect rammed the police car and fled.

The suspect vehicle was able to flee a short distance before crashing into a building in the area of Watt St. and Larsen Ave. One suspect was located in the vehicle. A conducted energy weapon (Taser) had to be deployed by officers in order to safely place the suspect under arrest. A second suspect that had not been seen was able to get back to the police cruiser car which he stole and fled the area in.

The stolen cruiser was driven through the Elmwood neighbourhood until it was abandoned in the area of Harbison Ave and Glenwood Cres. This second male suspect fled on foot and remains at large.
