Suspects Who Stole $100,000 from Winnipeg Businesses Nabbed by Police

WINNIPEG – Two men who targeted businesses that carried large amounts of cash, had their luck run out when police caught them breaking into a business on Lagimodière late last night.

Between January 7, 2017, and June 18, 2019, they broke into several businesses throughout the city:

– January 7, 2017 – business in the 400 block of Osborne St.

– February 22, 2017 – business in the 300 block of Wilton St.

– February 26, 2017 – business in the 1600 block of Regent Ave. W

– March 1, 2017 – business in the 1400 block of Main St.

– April 1-2, 2017 – business in the 700 block of Leila Ave.

– October 4-5, 2018 – same business in the 1600 block of Regent Ave. W

– November 24, 2018 – same business in the 400 block of Osborne St.

– December 24, 2019 – business in the 1600 block of Ellice Ave.

– December 22-24, 2019 – business in the 1100 block of Pembina Hwy.

– February 10, 2019 – business in the 3300 block of Portage Ave.

– February 17, 2019 – another business in the 1600 block of Regent Ave. W

– March 30, 2019 – same business in the 300 block of Wilton St.

– April 20, 2019 – business in the 300 block of Provencher Blvd.

– May 3-4, 2019 – same business in the 400 block of Osborne St.

– May 5, 2019 – first business in the 1600 block of Regent Ave. W (no entry gained)

– June 17-18, 2019 – business in the 400 block of Lagimodière Blvd.

During the incidents, a total of $100,000 of cash was stolen and approximately $100,000 of damages was caused to the buildings.

42 year-old Cary Scott Preston of Arnes has been charged with:

– Break Enter & Commit – Place (x5)

– Break Enter & Theft – Place (x9)

– Break & Enter with Intent – Place

– Disguise with Intent (x3)

– Possession of Break In Instrument(s)

– Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

He has been detained in custody.

A 56-year-old male of Winnipeg has been arrested for:

– Break Enter & Commit – Place (x2)

He was released on a Promise to Appear.
