Thanksgiving at the Assiniboine Park Zoo

This Thanksgiving weekend, the Assiniboine Park Zoo would like to say “thank you” to the community. There will be family-friendly activities and the zoo animals will get some special Thanksgiving treats of their own.

The following activities will take place daily from Saturday, October 6 to Monday, October 8 at the McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre.

· Over-sized yard games like Connect 4, Tilt-a-Maze and Jenga courtesy of Big Games

· Hay bale maze

· Thanksgiving photo station

· Heavy horse interpretative station

· Wagon rides (offered from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, $3 per person)

The animal care team will be presenting special Thanksgiving treats to animals throughout the Zoo over the course of the weekend and Winston, the Zoo’s polar bear mascot, will be making appearances on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Zoo Cruiser will also make its debut this weekend. This new set of wheels, made possible with support from River City Ford, is an important and welcome addition for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s Education team.

“Transportation to the Park and Zoo can be a barrier to participation for some schools and organizations,” said Karen Lind, Manager of Education & Programs, Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “Through our outreach programs we are able to bring some of what we offer here out into the community. We are grateful to River City Ford and our donors for helping us do that.”

On Saturday, October 6, Zoo visitors can enter the River City Ford Zoo Cruiser Photo Contest for a chance to win either an Apple watch OR a Galaxy Watch and a $50 Assiniboine Park and Zoo gift card. Take a photo with the River City Ford Zoo Cruiser at the Zoo entrance and share it on Instagram. Use hashtag #ZooCruiser and tag both @assiniboineparkzoo and @rivercityford. A winner will be chosen on Tuesday, October 9.

“We’ve had a ton of fun creating the Zoo Cruiser for the Assiniboine Park Zoo,” said Kyle Forcier, General Manager of River City Ford. “The Zoo Cruiser will give the community a chance to interact with the Zoo’s ambassador animals outside of the Zoo! This is truly a one of a kind experience that River City Ford is proud to be a part of.”
