The 9th Annual Manitoba Bisons Track and Field Meet is This Weekend

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Bisons fifth ranked men’s and tenth ranked women’s track and field teams are hosting a two-day track and field meet is this Friday and Saturday at the James Daly field-house.

This is the ninth annual meet hosted by the Bisons that will start Feb. 2 from 7 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. while the remainder of the events run on Feb. 3 with start time at 10 a.m. and finishing around 5 p.m. – admission is free both days.

There will be over 350 athletes from six different universities (Alberta, Lethbridge, Saskatchewan, Regina, Lakehead and Manitoba). There will also be numerous club athletes competing from Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan featuring some of our National team members and U SPORTS medallists from last year.

Bison track and field head coach Claude Berube, in his 21st season at Manitoba, commented, “The Bison track and field team is a proud host of the annual Bison Classic. We are pleased to have so many of the top seeded athletes in the U SPORTS rankings competing in the meet. There will be some very intense competition in many of the events. This is also another opportunity for our Bison athletes to qualify for the Nationals and get prepared as Manitoba host the 2018 Canada West T&F championship later in February.”

  • Brooke Lynn-Boyd in women’s shot put (1st ranked in Canada West; 4th in U SPORTS)
  • Marcel Dufault in men’s 60m (1st ranked in Canada West; 6th in U SPORTS)
  • Oyinko Akinola in long jump (1st ranked in Canada West; 3rd in U SPORTS); men’s high jump (3rd ranked in Canada West; T-5th in U SPORTS); plus in triple jump (3rd ranked in Canada West; 4th in U SPORTS)
  • Tristan Allen in men’s 800m (2nd ranked in Canada West; 8th in U SPORTS)
  • Gee-ef Nkwonta in men’s triple jump (2nd ranked in Canada West; 2nd in U SPORTS)
  • Luc Deleau in men’s 300m (3rd ranked in Canada West; 6th in U SPORTS)
  • Adam Gundrum in men’s heptathlon (4th ranked in Canada West; 5th in U SPORTS)
  • Bison men’s 4x400m relay team (1st ranked in Canada West; 2nd in U SPORTS)
  • Bison men’s 4x200m relay team (2nd ranked in Canada West; 6th in U SPORTS)
