WINNIPEG – The Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC) launchED an improved and expanded public transit service for Park and Zoo visitors. The new Domo Trolley at Assiniboine Park will provide free transportation connecting Assiniboine Park and Zoo with The Forks.
The service is available now and is provided free of charge, made possible through sponsor support.
“Domo is very proud to support the launch of the new Domo Trolley. This will be the seventh consecutive year Domo has teamed with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy to provide visitors with free transportation around the Park,” said Douglas Everett, Chairman at Domo Gasoline Corporation Ltd.
The Domo Trolley is owned and operated by the Winnipeg Trolley Company on behalf of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. The company’s trolleys are designed and built to resemble Winnipeg’s heritage streetcars, which were in service until 1955. The Domo Trolley (trolley 596) takes its number from the infamous Streetcar 596, famously photographed when it was almost overturned during the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike.
The Domo Trolley will travel on a route connecting Assiniboine Park and Zoo with The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. Within the Park, the Domo Trolley will stop at multiple locations providing convenient access to popular Park attractions including the Lyric Theatre, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, Nature Playground, and Assiniboine Park Zoo. Route maps are posted on the Park website, signs throughout the Park, and at a stop located at Inn at The Forks.
“We are very excited to expand our free Park transportation service and are so grateful to the Everett family and Domo Gasoline Corporation for their continued support and generosity,” said Trevor Clearwater, Sr. Director, Business Development & Sales, APC. “The Domo Trolley will provide a unique experience and a sustainable transportation option for visitors to both The Forks and Assiniboine Park and Zoo.”
A GPS-based tracking service will track the Domo Trolley’s location in real-time, providing riders with an estimated time of arrival for each stop on the route. The real-time tracker can be viewed online through a link on the Park’s website. Riders can also download a free app.
The Domo Trolley will operate from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm weekends only until the end of June, daily in July and August, and weekends only in early fall.
Visit the Park website at assiniboinepark.ca/trolley for the full schedule, stop locations, and a link to the GPS tracking service.
