Thompson RCMP needed the assistance of the Explosives Disposal Unit from Winnipeg and an outside expert to remove explosives from a residence that they executed a search warrant on.
On October 22, 2018, at approximately 2:00 pm, RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence located in the Westwood area of Thompson.
Officers located a quantity of suspected mining explosives; 14 firearms, one of which was loaded; cocaine; drug paraphernalia; and Canadian currency.
The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit from Winnipeg was consulted and an outside expert attended the scene to secure and properly remove the explosives from the scene.
Police arrested 43-year-old Shawn Gelasco and 41-year-old Ruth Gelasco, both from Thompson, and remanded them into custody on charges of:
· Possession of Explosives without Lawful Excuse x2
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
· Unsafe storage of a Firearm x 3
Drugs charges are pending.
