Manitoba Post StaffNews

WINNIPEG – Police have arrested four people in connection with an armed standoff and for the shooting a 23-year-old woman Friday in Winnipeg.

Police believe that three male suspects had been socializing at the home on Chudley Street when they left shortly after 2:00 a.m. with the intention of robbing a woman with a sawed-off shotgun.

Together, they went to a residential building in the 400 block of Flora Avenue and forced their way in. They then went to a suite and fired a shot through the door, striking a 23-year-old woman in the upper body and causing serious injuries. The three then fled and returned to the Chudley Street residence with the gun.

The injured woman was taken to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition where she remains at this time.

At the Chudley Street home, one of the suspects was involved in a dispute with a partygoer and pointed the sawed-off shotgun at him.

Shortly after officers arrived in the area, two men, including one of the suspects, exited the residence and were taken into custody. Four youth individuals also tried to leave but were threatened and forced to remain inside by one of the two remaining suspects.

All occupants, including the two remaining suspects, were eventually safely taken into custody. A sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun was later located inside the home and has been seized.
