WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Bisons sports teams continue to have an exciting and successful season. That success is because of the top quality athletes on all Bison teams, including these two who have been selected as the Athletes of the Week.
The Female Athlete of the week is hockey player, Alana Serhan. The No. 2 ranked Bison women’s hockey team earned a maximum six points on the road last weekend with a sweep of Regina Cougars.
Alana, a fifth year forward, was a force during the tow road victories with two goals (one was on the power play) and one assist with a plus/minus rating of +3 along with five shots plus named First Star of the Game in first game.
The Porcupine Plain, SK native was named First Star after a three point game with two goals and one assist with four shots and a +2 rating in the 4-1 road win. The 5’11” forward added a shot and a +1 rating in a 1-0 shutout win on Saturday to keep the Bisons in first place in the ultra competitive Canada West standings.
Serhan is tied for 16th in conference scoring and fifth in team with 11 points (four goals and seven assists) while playing in all 24 CW regular season games so far in 2017-18 season. She also tied for 12th in CW assists with seven.
The male Athlete of the Week is also from hockey, Quintin Lisoway. The Bison men’s hockey team swept the Regina Cougars at home and extended their winning streak to three games while still staying ahead in a tight battle for third place in the Canada West standings.
Quinton, a second year forward, continues his strong sophomore season with five pints while adding ten shots and a plus/minus rating of +3 plus.
On Friday, the Neepawa, MB native scored two goals (one on the PP) plus an assist with four shots in an 8-6 victory. The next night, the 5’10”, 200 lbs. forward added one goal and one assist with six shots and a +3 rating during a 7-1 home win and named First Star for his performance.
So far this 2017-18 season, Lisoway has scored ten goals and three assists good for 13 points, sixth in team scoring in 24 conference regular season games. He is tied for ninth in CW goals with ten.
