WINNIPEG – RCMP have charged two 20-year-olds were charged in connection with two armed robberies in Portage la Prairie.
Police said on October 5th they responded to an armed robbery on Tupper Street in Portage La Prairie. Two people were walking home from work when two men on bikes approached them. The men held them at knifepoint, while taking multiple items from them, including a cell phone, debit card, money, and a backpack. The two men then fled from the scene.
While Mounties were investigating this incident, another armed robbery was reported in the area. This time, the suspects used a screwdriver. Officers responded and captured two suspects who matched the descriptions given earlier. Police discovered most of the stolen items on then men when they were arrested. The screwdriver they used in the second robbery was also located by police.
RCMP said they obtained a search warrant for a home on 2nd Street NW in Portage where they found the stolen backpack.
Christian Meeches, 20, of Long Plain First Nation was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery with a Weapon x 3
- Fail to Comply with Probation x 2
Harlen Hart, 20, of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery with a Weapon x 3
- Fail to Comply with Probation x 2
- Fail to Comply with an Undertaking
- Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
