WINNIPEG, MB – The man who was wanted by Winnipeg police for a brazen vicious assault on a 17-year-old victim was caught by police last night, but not before he caused more mayhem.
Wednesday, January 24, around 12:30 p.m., police learned that the same male suspect damaged a window to one vehicle in a parking lot in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street. He then forced a 56-year-old man from his vehicle and drove away.
This vehicle was later found located, abandoned in the area of Gimli. Then, it was reported that a pickup truck was stolen from the same area.

At 9:30 p.m.officers spotted the stolen vehicle and began to follow. The suspect increased his speed in an attempt to flee police. With Air1 arriving overhead to follow and monitor the suspect’s location, police were able to make an attempt to slow the vehicle using stop sticks. The driver however continued trying to evade police, driving with damaged tires.
Near Portage Avenue and Broadway Street, the vehicle became stuck in traffic. As police approached the truck, the driver turned toward one of the approaching officers, causing the officer to jump out of harm’s way.
The truck was finally stopped around 9:51 p.m. in the 1900 block of Portage Avenue. However, during the pursuit, the suspect vehicle was involved in three minor accidents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
