WINNIPEG – Winnipeggers who love art will love to learn that the Winnipeg Art Gallery is reopening just in time for Valentine’s Day, after more than three months of public health orders that had kept its doors shut. The art museum says the WAG will open Sunday with regular hours and safety measures in place.
Staff say they’ll be enforcing a number of protocols under current public health orders. Floor markers and signage have been installed to ensure physically distancing and avoid congestion and touchless payment is preferred over cash. Hand-sanitizing stations are located throughout the galleries, and water bottles are welcome as water fountains are temporarily turned off.
Curators also note that guests can safely visit the exhibits after they have completed the province’s COVID-19 self-screening, and in keeping with Manitoba health requirements, those 5 years of age or older will need to wear facemasks or coverings. The gallery does have masks available in case they are needed.
The gallery will also be open for Louis Riel Day on Monday from 11 am – 5 pm. Free Sundays at WAG will resume on March 14.
Chief Provincial Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says museums and galleries may now be open, provided they stay within 25 per cent capacity.
You can complete Manitoba’s self-screening assessment here.
