WINNIPEG – An attempt to arrest a wanted man in Transcona resulted in an assault on officers and multiple attempts at carjacking before the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

On March 19, police stopped a vehicle that they suspected was being driven by a suspect wanted on an arrest warrant. When they tried to take him into custody, he struggled with the officers, attempting to disarm one of them. He got away and police chased him on foot, while he attempted to carjack several vehicles along the way.

Once police caught up with him there was another struggle before he was taken into custody.

27 year-old Leslie Shane Wolf Stapleton has been charged with the following offences:

1 x Fail to Comply with court order

2 x Assault a Peace Officer

1 x Resisting a Peace Officer

1 x Escape Lawful custody

1 x Disarming a Peace Officer

2 x Robbery

Stapleton was remanded into custody.
