Weapons and Drugs Found During Traffic Stop Near Main Street

WINNIPEG, MB. – A traffic stop near Selkirk Avenue and Main Street results in a 33 and 37-yea-old arrested for weapons and drug charges.

Police stopped a vehicle around 11:00 PM on January 13 for a Highway Traffic Act infraction. While speaking with the driver police could clearly see a large hunting knife in front seat. Police discovered the driver was in breach of a court order prohibiting possession of weapons. They also discovered methamphetamine in the vehicle, $9,000 in cash as well as a small quantity of cocaine.

Police charged the 33-year-old man, who they did not name, with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000

James Joseph Freitas, 37, was also charged with the following;

  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 2
  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000
