Weapons Seized After Police Raid Hotel Room on Pembina Highway

WINNIPEG – Thursday night Police, with members from of the Tactical Unit, K-9 Unit and AIR-1, executed a search warrant at a hotel room in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway.

Police said three people were taken into custody and they seized a number of items including the following:

  • .22 calibre improvised “zip gun”-style firearm
  • Approximately one hundred rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
  • Two serrated knives (5” & 7”)
  • Gun powder
  • Six .223 calibre rounds
  • Five 20-gauge shotgun shells
  • Six 12-gauge shotgun shells
  • BB pellets
  • BB handgun

Ken John Krul, a 23-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x9)
  • Possession of a Weapon (x2)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)

Justin Mathew Melo, a 31-year-old man from Hamilton, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x6)
  • Possession of a Weapon (x2)
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x5)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Finally, police said they also arrested a 23-year-old woman from Winnipeg for the following:

  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon (x2)
