Winnipeg Checkstop Program Begin Tonight

News

INNIPEG, MB. – Tonight Winnipeg Police begin their Checkstop program that will run daily for the month of December including New Year’s Eve.

Impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death in Canada, yet it is 100% preventable. We take this opportunity to remind citizens that we all have an important role to play in preventing impaired driving and the all too often human costs often associated with this crime.

Winnipeg Police say the message is simple, if you choose to drink or do drugs, DON’T DRIVE.

Last year in Winnipeg the campaign resulted in:

  • 4472 Vehicles Stopped
  • 168 Approved Screening Device tests administered
  • 27 Approved Screening Device warnings (72 hr suspension)
  • 46 Drive Impaired / Drive Over 80mg% / Refusal charges

The Winnipeg Police Service would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable festive season.
