A Winnipeg man has been charged with theft over $5,000 after investigating a complaint dating back to May 2017.

An elderly couple from Headingly claimed that they had cashed out a significant portion of their assets to 69 year-old Charles Morrison who told them that he was a financial and tax advisor.

Headingley RCMP and the RCMP Commercial Crime Unit initiated a joint investigation and determined that Morrison did not have a current professional designation in the financial field. It was ultimately determined that Morrison converted the funds for his own personal benefit.

“Morrison enticed these people to provide funds. Unfortunately, those funds do not appear to be used as intended,” said Sgt. Breanne Chanel, a member of the RCMP Commercial Crime Unit. “People are reminded to do their research when it comes to selecting a trusted financial advisor.”

Morrison has been arrested and charged with Theft Over $5000 x 2. He was remanded into custody
