Winnipeg Man Charged With Assaulting a Police Officer

WINNIPEG – A 25 year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with assaulting a police officer after he repeatedly rammed his stolen vehicle into a police cruiser as he attempted to get away.

Police spotted the stolen vehicle behind a home on Redwood Avenue with two people still inside the car. When they turned on their emergency lights, the driver of the stolen vehicle reversed the car, hitting the driver’s side of the cruiser car. The driver of the stolen vehicle moved ahead and again reversed and striking the cruiser car.

The driver tried to flee through the yard with the stolen vehicle, got hung up and was boxed in by police. The male driver fled on foot, and the female passenger was taken into custody.

A responding K9 unit tracked and located the driver hiding in the 300 block of Burrows Avenue. He suffered minor injuries as a result of being apprehended by the K9.

The stolen vehicle had been taken from a garage in the west Charleswood area overnight.

Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code

Fail to Comply with Recognizance X3

He has been detained.

A 23-year-old female of Winnipeg was arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 and released on a Promise to Appear.
