Winnipeg Man Shot Found Roaming Street

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Police responded to reports of gunshots and wounded man walking in the are of the first 100 block of Dubois Place on Saturday evening around 7:45PM.

When officers arrived an injured man went to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers quickly identified an involved residence and made entry, but no individuals were found inside. Several firearms, including a .22 calibre rifle, were found.

Soon after, a suspect was located in the area of the hospital and was placed under arrest. The victim and the suspect are known to each other.

Joel Benarde Tencha, a 47-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

– Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

– Pointing a Firearm

– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

– Discharge a Firearm with Intent

– Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations

– Aggravated Assault

– Assault with a Weapon

– Possession of a Weapon

The man remains in custody.
