WINNIPEG – Police arrested a man wanted on a Canada-Wide warrant after he was crashed a stolen vehicle into a ditch near McPhillips Street.
Early Tuesday morning, 1:40AM, police spotted a stolen vehicle near Chalmers Avenue and Watt Street. Officers tried to stop the vehicle; however, the driver drove over a boulevard and fled at a high rate of speed.
A short pursuit ensued that ended when the driver of the stolen vehicle traveling west on the Perimeter Hwy crashed into a ditch near McPhillips Street. The lone male occupant was removed from the vehicle taken into custody. Officer’s found a backpack that had identification and several prescription pads stolen from various locations in Winnipeg and Brandon.
The vehicle had been reported stolen to Selkirk RCMP on September 3rd of this year.
Police said they arrested, Joseph Louis Savino, 32-years-old from Winnipeg and charged him with:
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 X7
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Resist Pease Officer
Savino was also wanted on a Canada wide warrant for Suspension of Statutory Release.
